My Client who is a leading expert within their chosen field is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. The successful candidate will have experience designing whole machine systems.
The successful candidate will play a key role in designing mechanical assemblies and components, supporting engineering upgrades, and contributing to innovative retrofit solutions. Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or other CAD packages is required.
Mechanical Design Engineer
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems for CNC retrofits and machine refurbishments.
Create accurate 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
Work from site measurements, legacy drawings, or reverse engineering to produce accurate designs.
Liaise with electrical engineers, control engineers, and workshop teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and electrical systems.
Support workshop fabrication, assembly, and on-site fitting with practical and clear design documentation.
Participate in design reviews, safety assessments, and continuous improvement efforts.
Contribute to bill of materials (BOMs), project planning, and technical documentation.
Liaising with current and new suppliers, both in-house and external
Building and testing of prototypes
Producing tool design
Mechanical Design Engineer
Requirements:
Degree, HND, or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Proven experience in machine design or industrial/mechanical engineering.
Has designed using 3D CAD, Solidworks, Solid Edge, Catia or Autodesk Inventor
Can demonstrate experience designing complex assemblies
Formal design change management knowledge
Understanding of manufacturing processes: machining, fabrication, and assembly.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
Strong problem-solving skills and practical engineering mindset.
Comfortable working both independently and within a small, collaborative team.
Desirable Skills:
Experience with CNC machines, or motion control systems.
Familiarity with pneumatics, hydraulics, or mechanical automation.
Site or workshop-based mechanical fitting experience.
Knowledge of safety standards relating to machinery design and refurbishment.
